Questionable Call Gives Devils 2-1 Win Over Flyers

We may have finally seen the last of Marty Brodeur in Philadelphia after tonight's game, unless he decides to pull a Brett Favre and hang on to his career a little too long. (which he's debatably already doing) This did not end up being the main narrative tonight though. The general theme by the end of the game was outrage, outrage at a goal by Scott Hartnell with 40 seconds left that was called no good by the ref less than a half a second after it went in.
The referee, whose name will soon be public I'm sure, waved the goal off claiming that Hartnell pushed Brodeur into the net. This wouldn't have mattered though, as the puck was already well behind Marty when the whistle blew. Adding to that, Hartnell was pushed into Brodeur by the Devil's defense.

This loss definitely hurts, because it seems like the Flyers have been salvaging a lot of point when losing thanks to OT losses recently. These are a big 2 points for the Devils to gain and now that sour taste will stay in the Flyers' mouths for 4 days until they play the Penguins on Saturday.

And all this on a night where Nick Grossmann registered a goal! That's right, it was Grossmann's first goal in 76 games and 3rd in 298 games. It came in the first minute of the second period to tie it at 1-1 on a slapshot from the top of the zone. It somehow got through Brodeur's five-hole from over 50 feet away. That was the only goal Brodeur let in tonight, saving 30 other shots.

Travis Zajac and Jaromir Jagr scored the goals for the Devils, Jagr's being the game-decider (though it probably shouldn't have been).

Note: Chris VandeVelde played in place of Zac Rinaldo, who sat out with an upper-body injury. He is day-to-day. The Flyers drop the season series to the Devils 1-2-1. Next game is Saturday at 1 at home vs. the Penguins, part of a back-to-back with the second being in Pittsburgh Sunday.
