Reverse Power Rankings Week 8: 76ers Commit To Tanking

Although it was only a few weeks ago, it seems like its been even longer since that 3-0 start by the Sixers.  After a terrific first week, including wins over the Bulls and Heat, the 76ers now have an overall record of 7-18, good for the second worst record in the Eastern Conference.  Now that the Sixers are on the path to fully commit to their original tanking plan, they can focus on the college basketball season and their tantalizing prospects.

There are those who hate the idea of tanking, the idea of giving up on the season.  While you hate to give up on a season, it is to better the future of the organization.  If you don't believe me, take a look at the New York Jets.  They currently sit at 6-8 and are pretty much eliminated from playoff contention.  They fought hard at the beginning of the season to get to 6 wins, and there is a lot of pride for someone to defy others' perceptions of them.  But, since they are now 6-8, they are currently out of the top ten for their draft.

The 76ers do not want to follow that game plan if they wish to win a championship down the road.  Their pick should be in the top 3 this year, in a season with the deepest draft since 2003.  The Pelicans are 11th in their conference, which would give the 76ers two lottery picks this season.  MCW, Noel, and the two lottery picks will certainly be able to carry this squad to a few championship opportunities in the future, which is certainly more appealing than fighting to win 7-8 more games this year.

The 76ers have slowly but surely entered top consideration in these rankings, so without further ado, here are the Week 8 Reverse Power Rankings:
