Isaiah Miles, who had his first ever start tonight, finished with a double double, scoring 12 points and snaring 14 rebounds.
DeAndre Bembry, who was a starter on last year's team, was able to get some great looks when he was driving to the hoop. However, he was only able to muster up 8 points on 3-10 shooting.
Senior Chris Wilson will be looked upon to be a leader on this year's team. Wilson looked incredibly comfortable filling that role tonight, controlling the tempo on offense with 12 points and 6 rebounds, as well as on defense with 2 steals.
However, the Hawks really struggled early on against FDU's zone defense. Not many teams will play zone over man, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem going forward. The real problem was the amount of turnovers the Hawks had. They recorded 16 turnovers, as opposed to FDU's 7 turnovers. Protecting the ball and not playing sloppy is something that the Hawks will need to focus on this season.
With such a young and inexperienced team, it can take a bit for Saint Joseph's to hit their stride. Taking care of the ball and being able to finish at the rim will go a long way towards improvement.
