Sixers Defeated, Iverson's #3 Retired

3/2/2014

Oh, how the times have changed. On a night when Allen Iverson, one of the greatest Sixers of all time, had his number official retired, the current Sixers team took a beating. Its not a stretch to say more fans were there to see Iverson honored then to see a team consisting of Thad Young, MCW and a band of NBA rejects. The 76ers fell behind early and lost to the Wizards for their 12th straight loss at home.
The 76ers allowed 41 points in the first quarter, falling behind by 13 before the start of the 2nd. Trevor Ariza was red-hot from long range and punished Philly, hitting all 6 of attempts from three in the opening period. Ariza would finished with a career-high 40 points. The Sixers would never truly get back in it even though the game was never that far out of reach. Philadelphia trailed by 12 at halftime while Iverson saw his number raised into the rafters. The Wizards maintained their double-digit lead for the rest of the game and it would grow to as large as 25 in the final minutes. The Sixers skid continued, losing 122-103.

Tony Wroten led Philadelphia with 19 points and Young contributed 17 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Carter-Williams ended with 15 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. The 76ers took advantage of their ability to run and scored 30 fast break points. However, the Sixers committed 22 turnovers.

Ariza added 4 steals to his 40 points and John Wall recorded 16 assists and 17 points. Marcin Gortat secured 14 rebounds and blocked 2 shots while adding 13 points. Washington shot 50.6% from the field and hit 12 of 26 from downtown.

The Sixers will travel to Orlando to play the Magic(18-43) for the second time this week on Sunday. Philly lost to the Magic 101-90 at home last Wednesday.
