Sixers Drop One at Home To the Nuggets

The Sixers returned home to the Wells Fargo Center to play the Denver Nuggets (11-8) only one day after losing in Charlotte. Michael Carter-Williams would miss his second straight game with a sore right knee and Tony Wroten would once again start in his place. The Sixers would lose this one late, falling to the Nuggets 103-92.
Denver would also be without their starting point guard with Ty Lawson out with an injured hamstring. The Sixers came out hot for the second straight night, opening the game on a 10-2 run. Wilson Chandler led the Nuggets right back in it and Denver took the lead within the last 2 minutes of the 1st quarter. The Sixers took the a 27-25 lead into the 2nd quarter. Philly was able to hold onto the lead for the majority of the second quarter, but it was kept close. The 76ers went into the half with a 53-49 lead.

It was a very tightly contested 3rd quarter but midway through the Nuggets were able to take back the lead off a Nate Robinson jumper midway through the quarter. Robinson had a big game off the bench for Denver, and ended up leading his team with 20 points. The Sixers played much better defense in this game, not allowing a 30 point quarter, but without MCW the team did not force as many turnovers as they would've liked. The Nuggets held a slim lead for the majority of the 4th quarter. Jordan Hamilton hit 3 shots from beyond the arc within a 2 minute span to help Denver pull away with a double-digit lead. Philly's offense fell apart in the final quarter, scoring only 15 points. Brett Brown left the starters on the bench for too long in the final quarter and when they came on the floor they were cold. The Sixer's shot selection down the stretch was poor and although Wroten put up good number, he dribbled too much and left himself trapped on a few different occasions. The Sixers would lose 103-92.

Philadelphia did very well in the paint, outscoring the Nuggets 64-42 around the basket. The Sixers also outscored Denver 15-5 in transition. The difference maker in this contest was Denver's ability to get to the foul line. Denver attempted 34 free-throws, hitting 76.5% while the Sixers only got to the line 14 times in comparison.

Tony Wroten led the Sixers in scoring for the second straight game, scoring 20 and grabbing 5 rebounds. Wroten recorded only 1 assist, not a number you want from your starting point guard. Evan Turner had an off night with 6 points, way under his season average 21.2. Thad Young finished with 14 points while adding 2 steals and 7 rebounds. Hawes added 14 points and 8 rebounds and 2 rejections.

The Nuggets were led by Nate Robinson off the bench who finished with 20 points. Jordan Hamilton also had a big game in reserve, adding 13. Randy Foye, the former Villanova Wildcat, scored 13.

The Sixers drop to 7-14, and 6-6 at home. Philadelphia will stay home for their next matchup against Chris Paul and the Clippers on Monday.
