The 76ers (7-14) and the Clippers (13-8) faced off Monday night in an interconference matchup. Philadelphia looked to protect their home court without Carter-Williams in the lineup for a 4th straight game. Los Angeles was able to win both games in the series between these teams last season. Sadly, the trend would continue in a 94-83 defeat for the Sixers in a night where both teams struggled to score.
The Sixers did a good job of keeping the Clippers potentially explosive offense relatively quiet in the 1st quarter. Philadelphia held LA to 23 points in the opening period, and although they started cold (29% shooting in 1st), the 76ers found themselves down only 6 points thanks to 7 offensive rebounds in the quarter. The Sixers' shooting problems carried over to the 2nd, allowing the Clippers to go on a 10-2 run. Philadelphia was able to stop the run after a timeout with 3 quick unanswered baskets. Both teams went ice cold as if bad shooting was contagious as over 4 scoreless minutes went by before Thad Young finally hit a mid-range jumper. At halftime, the Sixers found found themselves down 36-44. The first half was ugly for both sides as neither team shot over 36% from the floor. The Sixers did not connect on any of their 13 1st half attempts from beyond the arc. LA's 17 1st half fast break points were a big reason why they had the lead at the break.

LA cooled off again early in the 4th, allowing the Sixers to make it a 7 point game as Evan Turner hit a layup to complete an 11-2 run. The Clippers would find their shot again but the Sixers stayed within striking distance. With 1:15 left, Chris Paul scored to give the Clippers a 9 point lead. Unfortunately, the Sixers were unable to hit any of their shots in the final minute and the Clippers would win it 94-83.
The Sixers' defense has allowed the most point per game but allowed only allowed 94 points to dynamic Clippers offense who average 104 per game. The Sixers shot 36% from the floor and 14% from downtown, stats they would like to forget. Philadelphia had 16 turnovers, but outscored their opponent in the paint 48-36.
Evan Turner led the 76ers with 25 points while also collecting 8 rebounds and 5 assists in a solid all around game. Thad Young added 16 points and 11 rebounds. The other starters, Thompson, Wroten and Hawes, all shot awfully in this game, combining for 4-25 shooting, but Thompson and Wroten both got to the line and ended with 8 and 9 points respectively. Wroten also added 10 rebounds and 7 assists.
Blake Griffin led LA with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks while CP3 continued to prove himself as the best point guard in the league, scoring 25, dishing out 13 assists and swiping 3 steals. DeAndre Jordan added 11 point and a monster night on the boards, finishing with 21 rebounds.
There was good news for Michael Carter-Williams as he was released from the hospital early today after a treatment on an infection in his knee. He is still listed as day-to-day but there is no specific timetable for his return. He will likely miss another game or two.
The Sixers, now at 7-15, look to end their 3 game slide in Minnesota (9-11) on Wednesday.
