Michael Carter-Williams returned to the court for the first time in four games as the Sixers welcomed Toronto to the Wells Fargo Center. The return of MCW to the Sixers roster would not be enough however, as Philadelphia fell by a final score of 108-98.
DeMar DeRozan came out firing for the Raptors in the first half, leading the Toronto charge with 22 points before the break. DeRozan shot 7 for 12 in the first half for Toronto, including 3 for 4 from 3-point range.
The Sixers received some hot shooting of their own, as Spender Hawes kept them in the game in the first half. Hawes scored 14 in the half, going 4 for 4 from the field, including 2 for 2 from deep and 4 for 4 from the charity stripe.
The perfect shooting of Hawes in the half would keep the Sixers close, but they went to the locker room trailing 55-48, as the Raptors shot 58.3% (7-12) from beyond the arc in the first half.
Toronto would emerge from the locker room ready to play, extending their lead to 16 points after three quarters of play. The Sixers picked things up a bit in the fourth quarter, but failed to close the gap, falling in the end by a score of 108-98.
Philadelphia was led on the night by Hawes, who had a season-high 28 points on 10 for 13 shooting from the field. Hawes grabbed 10 boards and dished out three assists on the evening as well, but could not make up for the cold shooting from some of the other members of the Sixers.
MCW struggled in his return to the court, shooting just 2 for 10, as he scored 10 points in the game, doing most of his damage from the free throw line. Evan Turner and James Anderson each contributed 13 points for the Sixers, but Philadelphia could not make up for the absence of Thad Young on the evening.
The Raptors were led by a spectacular effort from DeRozan, who finished the game with 33 points. Rudy Gay chipped in 18 points for Toronto and Terrence Ross added 17 points as well in the victory for the Raptors.
The loss drops the Sixers to 5-7 on the season. Philadelphia will return to action on Friday when they welcome the Bucks to the Wells Fargo Center.
