The Hawks won the battle of the boards, out rebounding Richmond 44-35, while generating second-chance shots with 21 offensive rebounds. Halil Kanacevic secured a career-high 19 rebounds for SJU to go with his game-high 21 points. However, Saint Joe's struggled from the floor, shooting a pathetic 37% for the game.
Richmond expanded their lead to 17 with just under 5 minutes remaining in the game. Langston Galloway and Kanacevic sparked a comeback attempt for the Hawks, closing the game to within 8 points with 2:22 left on the clock. The Spiders 21 for 30 free-throw shooting would put the game away and the Hawks lost 77-62.
Kendall Anthony scored 19 points and added 4 assists for Richmond. Trey Davis grabbed 12 boards to go with 14 points and guard Cedric Lindsay scored 16 (9-13 FT). Richmond's bench completely outplayed SJU's, providing 24 points and valuable minutes while Saint Joe's added only 2 points.
Langston Galloway scored 13 points for SJU and hit 3 from long range to break the school's three-point record with 296. Ronald Roberts struggled in this one, scoring only 5 points (2-7 FG) with 4 rebounds. He was averaging over 14 ppg and 7 rpg coming into the match-up. The freshmen forward Bembry recorded 11 points and with 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
The Hawks will play on the road again as they travel to Dayton on Wednesday.
