Louisville was in control from the outset, taking a 24-6 lead on a Terry Rozier jumper with 12:55 left in the first half. Temple would close to within 9 with 5:35 left in the half, but the Cardinals would maintain control, extending their lead to 17 before heading to the locker room up 42-29.
It would be the same story in the second half, as Louisville continued to build its lead, winning in dominant fashion, 88-66.
The Owls struggled throughout, committing 17 turnovers in the game. While they were able to shoot 42.1 percent from the field, they made just 4-of-19 shots from beyond the arc.
Cummings and DeCosey led three Temple players in double digits with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Dalton Pepper added 10 for the Owls, but they were no match for the defending national champion Cardinals.
The Cardinals were led in the victory by guard Russ Smith, who finished with 24 points, while Montrezl Harrell scored 21 and Terry Rozier added 19 off the bench.
Temple will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Houston at the Liacouras Center.
