
Facing their fourth straight ranked opponent, the Owls took an 11-8 lead on a jumper by Will Cummings with 13:34 left in the first half. Memphis would respond with a 7-0 run to take the lead however, one they would stretch to as much as 11 before heading to the locker room with a 40-32 lead.
Geron Johnson led the Tigers, scoring 10 points in the half, while Austin Nichols added 9 points and 7 rebounds for Memphis.
Temple would close in on Memphis in the second half, taking a 61-59 lead on a three by Dalton Pepper with 10:06 remaining. The teams would trade leads from there, before Pepper tied the game with a free throw with 1:13 remaining, forcing the game to overtime.
Memphis would be able to pull out the win in overtime, winning by a final score of 82-79 to pick up their 21st victory of the season.
Will Cummings led three Owls' scorers who finished with 20 or more points, as he scored 24 in the loss. Quenton DeCosey scored 23 and Dalton Pepper added 20, but the Owls came up just short, as they fell to 7-19 on the season and 2-12 in AAC play.
Shaq Goodwin led five Memphis players who finished in double figures, as he scored 20 in the win, while Austin Nichols recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while also blocking 7 shots in the game.
Temple will again face a ranked opponent in their next game, as they visit #11 Louisville on Thursday.
