Despite jumping out to a big lead early, the Owls found themselves fighting off a charging Explorers squad down the stretch, as Temple held on for a 58-57 win over La Salle.
The Explorers would narrow the deficit before the half, however, as Cleon Roberts hit a jumper with time winding down in the half to send La Salle to the half down just 35-29.
La Salle would start the second half on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 35-35 before a three by Roberts gave the Explorers a 38-37 lead, their first since a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game.
The Owls would regain the lead, but the Explorers would continue to threaten for the remainder the contest.
Trailing 56-54 with 11 seconds remaining, Jordan Price would get a decent look with a chance to tie the game for the Explorers, but would miss the shot.
Josh Brown would grab the rebound for the Owls, drawing the foul and making both free throws to ice the game for the Owls. La Salle would hit a three at the buzzer to cut their final deficit to just one, as the Explorers dropped their Big 5 matchup to Temple 58-57.
