Temple continued to trend upward on Sunday afternoon.

After an up-and-down start to the season, the Owls finally appeared to be finding their groove entering Sunday’s contest with South Florida, having won four in a row and seven of their past eight.

Temple would have little trouble with South Florida, leading for nearly 39 minutes in a 77-65 victory over the Bulls.

“They’re a team that had nothing to lose, so they were kind of at ease,” Josh Brown said. “We kind of knew that coming into this game. We tried to jump on them and put them away early, but they’re a resilient team. They stuck with it and we were able to come out with a victory.”

Temple would waste little time taking control over South Florida, building a lead as large as 15 on a jumper by Jaylen Bond with 7:30 remaining in the half. The Bulls would refuse to go away, however, hitting a three at the buzzer to cut their deficit to single digits and head to the half trailing just 40-31.

In the second half, South Florida would refuse to go away, cutting Temple’s lead to just four on a free throw by Bo Zeigler with 14:17 remaining in the contest.

Temple would maintain its poise, however, stretching its lead 16 on its way to a 77-65 win over South Florida.

The Owls received stellar performances from multiple players, with five players finishing in double-digit scoring. Bond turned in a massive double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards, while Josh Brown added 11 points and nine assists.

“Just whenever my teammates shoot, they’re supposed to think make, but I am going think miss and crash the glass as much as I can,” Bond said. “Get as many rebounds as I can.”

Quenton DeCosey added 12 points, six rebounds and six assists in the win and Obi Enechionyia pitched in 18 points, including 13 in the first half.

With South Florida out of the way, Temple now turns its focus to #1 Villanova. The Owls will host the Wildcats on Wednesday night at the Liacouras Center as they look to seize a massive opportunity and continue their upward trend.

“It’s a spectacular opportunity in that they are the number one team in the country,” Temple Coach Fran Dunphy said. “It’s a city school that is a terrific program over the years and recently they’ve had phenomenal success. It’s a great opportunity for our team and for our fans and our school. The challenge will be great, but the opportunity is great as well.”
