Detroit's goalie, Jonas Gustavsson, looked awful tonight and the Flyers reaped all the benefits, including Andy (look at Twitter pics from a week ago to see why I'm calling him this) Hall who scored a beauty on a Giroux-esque backhand shot to put the Flyers up 3-0.
In the third period, playing with confidence, Claude Giroux put up his 16th of the year, this time assisted by Hartnell, who was a fight away from a Gordy Howe hat trick.
Just when things were getting boring in the third period and the only entertainment the crowd had was me yelling at Jimmy Howard (and believe me he heard me) Sean Couturier joined the fun with his 9th goal of the year on a wrap-around shot.
Steve Mason played unbelievably this game. There was a save he had in I believe the 2nd period where he saved the puck, which rebounded, then saved it again while lying on his back. This drew the standing O from the crowd. Mase went 33 for 33 in saves.
The good take-away: the Red Wings haven't beat the Flyers in Philadelphia since the 1997 Stanley Cup...so yeah, take that!
The bad take-away. We beat a team that was playing without Jimmy Howard, Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg. So basically we beat the Grand Rapids Griffins. Hey, who cares though? A win's a win, especially now.
The Flyers look to take that momentum with them to Southern California on Thursday as they start a mini West Coast trip with the Anaheim Ducks. Nod off to sleep with the orange and black since the puck drop is at 10:00 pm.
