The Union came out of the locker room looking to tie things up and did just that, as Sheanon Williams scored in the 60th minute, his first of the season. Williams’ score came on a ball played into the six by Sebastien Le Toux, who collected his tenth assist of the season, a league high. On a nice ball played into the box, Williams dove for the header, and in a somewhat awkward sequence headed the ball into the ground, had it bounce off his face, and heeled the ball into the net as he fell to the ground.
The Fire notched the game winner fifteen minutes later, as Magee netted his league-leading fourteenth of the season to put away the Union. While the Union kept heavy pressure on the Fire in the second half, they just couldn’t bury one. In the end, the Union out-shot and out-possessed the Fire, but just couldn’t net the necessary goals to get the win.
The Union now sit in fourth in the Eastern Conference. They will return to action next Saturday at home against the cellar dwellers of the Eastern Conference D.C. United.
