It was a sloppy first half, as both teams shot under 29 percent from the field and accumulated double-digit turnovers. Darrun Hilliard led the Wildcats charge in the first half, scoring 12 points, while JayVaughn Pinkston added 8.
The Wildcats would remain in control until the waning minutes of the game, as the Jayhawks closed in. With 33 seconds remaining, Frank Mason would drive the lane for the tying layup for Kansas and be fouled, giving the Jayhawks a 59-58 lead after making the accompanying free throw.
Having gone scoreless from the field all night, the ball was placed in Arcidiacono's hands with the game on the line. With just 10.1 seconds remaining, the sophomore guard hit a 3-pointer to regain the lead for the Wildcats, as they would hold on to shock the Jayhawks 63-59.
Hilliard scored 14 points in the game for the Wildcats, to go along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Pinkston would finish with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while Dylan Ennis pitched in 14 points off the bench in just his second game as a Wildcat.
The Wildcats were able to limit the damage done by freshman sensation Andrew Wiggins, as the guard scored just 10 points in the game.
Villanova, 6-0, will return to action Saturday, as they face #23 Iowa in the Battle for Atlantis Championship.
