Penn had their best night from the field all season, shooting 57.6 percent on 19-of-33, but turnovers were once again their achilles heel. The Quakers turned the ball over 22 times including a turnover in the final 40 seconds that Wagner would score off on the ensuing drive. Even outshooting Wagner & outrebounding them 29-23 was not enough to combat those 22 turnovers and their negative effects.
Junior big man Darien Nelson-Henry led the team with 11 points and 8 rebounds. The Quakers spread the wealth on offense, with the other four starters getting at least 7 point apiece. Freshman Antonio Woods also had 7 off the bench.
The road tests continue for Penn on Wednesday as they travel to Navy. Navy has only beaten one division 1 opponent all season, but played Michigan State very well in their season opener. Penn will need to pick themselves up and forget about this loss in order to get their first win of the season on the road Wednesday.
