Neither team shot the ball particularly well from the field; Villanova shot 37% while Marquette went 35% from the field. However, the Wildcats took advantage of their opportunities from three point territory and the free throw line. The Golden Eagles went 6-16 from three and 4-7 from the free throw line, while the Wildcats went 11-26 and 13-19, respectively. The teams were near even in rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and turnovers, but the Wildcat offense was able to convert their opportunities more often early on.
The win tonight marks the 20th of the year for Villanova, and their 7th in Big East play. With just 9 games left, each game gives the Wildcats a better chance at securing a better seed in the NCAA Tournament. A win against Georgetown on Saturday would go a long way in making that happen.
