It was an off night for Jay Wright and the Wildcats, who lost to Georgetown by a final score of 78-58. The loss is just the second of the year for Villanova, which is also their second in Big East play. Arcidiacono led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 points, while Issac Copeland and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera both led all scorers with 17 points.
The Wildcats struggled mightily from the field. going 14-41 as a team, and just 7-23 from three point range. All season long, Villanova has been lauded for their team depth and how many different players can take over on any given night. Tonight, however, Arcidiacono and Josh Hart (10 points) were the only two players to reach double digit totals in scoring.
The Wildcats found themselves at a 42-20 deficit at the half. They stormed back to cut the Hoya lead to 12 in the middle of the second half, and it looked like for a minute that they would be able to come all the way back. Georgetown, however, was able to stop that run and keep Villanova at a safe distance the rest of the way.
Bad shooting nights are bound to happen eventually. The Wildcats never gave up and made a great attempt at coming back in the second half, which is a great sign for them should they find themselves down come tournament time.
