The Wildcats also dominated from the free throw line, going 26-31 from the charity stripe. The Friars went just 6-12 on free throws in the game. Providence made more field goals than Villanova (26-25), but Villanova's dominance from the three-point and free throw lines was the difference in the game.
It was a huge win for the Wildcats. Providence was no slouch, ranking 25th in the country coming into the game. Villanova came out and made a statement on the defensive end, holding a ranked team to just 61 points on the night. The Wildcats never allowed the Friars to get into a rhythm on offense. The victory brings Villanova to 26-2 overall and 13-2 in the Big East, while Providence drops to 19-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big East.
