Wildcats Win Showdown Between Big Cats

In a showdown between a wild cat and a tiger in real life may produce a pretty even battle.  But in the college basketball world, the Wildcats easily won that matchup as Villanova took down Towson, with a final score of 78-44.  The Wildcats rode their great defensive intensity and 20 from James Bell in order to give the Tigers their first loss of the season.
The Wildcats defense came to play, and really showed up in a big way.  Earlier in the week, Towson received 48 points from the combined efforts of Jerrelle Benimon and Marcas Damas (32 points and 16 points respectively).  However, the duo struggled mightily against Villanova as Benimon was only able to put up 11 points and Damas was held scoreless for all 40 minutes.  This ends the Tigers' stay in Philadelphia, after taking on Temple and Villanova within a four day span.  It was the first loss of the season for Towson, and their next game doesn't make it easier as they take on team #RigginforWiggins at Kansas.

Villanova got out to a big lead early, going up 42-20 at the half.  Sophomore point guard Arcidiacono finished the game with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, and senior guard Tony Chennault had 6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals off the bench.  Arcidiacono and Chennault are both local products, as Chennault is from Philadelphia and Arcidiacono is from Langhorne, PA.  The Wildcats' ability to secure local talent will go a long way in keeping with their excellent recruiting.  As mentioned above, Bell finished with 20 points, but also had 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks to go with it.

The Wildcats were able to find scoring off the bench, whom as a collective group contributed 20 of the team's 78 points.  Villanova's defense also came up big, as they forced Towson into 24 turnovers in the game.  It was a great all-around team effort from the Wildcats, as the Towson Tigers are no cupcake opponent.  The Wildcats' schedule will eventually get more difficult, as they will play teams like Syracuse and Marquette down the road, but beating the teams they need to beat early on will go along way come judgment day in March.

Next game: Friday, November 22 vs Delaware Blue Hens (Home game)
