Temple had the week off, so just Villanova and U Penn were in action this weekend for the Philly College Football squads. Villanova won in a route, but the Quakers were not as lucky, as they fell in their Ivy League matchup.
Villanova 45 Rhode Island 0
It was all Villanova in this one, as the Wildcats dominated the Rams on their way to pitching a shutout. The Wildcats traveled to Rhode Island and felt plenty at home as they scored early and often to get back to .500 on the season.
Villanova put the game away before halftime, as the Wildcats went to the locker room up 35-0. Quarterback John Robertson ran for four first half touchdowns and Kevin Monangai rushed for one as well, as the Wildcats had their way with the Rams.
Monangai would run for another touchdown in the third quarter and Mark Hamilton would hit a 22-yard field goal to put the Wildcats up 45-0. Villanova took its foot off the gas at that point, cruising to a 45-0 win.
Robertson broke the record for rushing yards by a quarterback at Villanova during the game and also moved into fourth for all rushers in school history.
Villanova will next play on November 23, when they meet the Delaware Fightin Blue Hens at PPL Park.
U Penn 26 Princeton 38
Penn opened the scoring with a safety and two touchdowns but couldn't maintain their momentum, falling in the end to Ivy League foe Princeton.
After the Quakers recorded the safety, they returned an interception 61-yards for a touchdown to lead 9-0 in the first quarter. Kyle Wilcox would run for a 6-yard touchdown shortly into the second quarter to stretch the Quakers' lead to 16, but Princeton would respond with 17 straight points to take the lead. Billy Ragone hit Ryan Mitchell for a 34-yard touchdown as Penn regained the lead with 12 seconds remaining in the half.
It would be all Princeton in the second half, as the Tigers overcame the Quakers' lead with the help of 3 second half touchdowns. Penn would only manage a field goal in the second half, as they fell 38-26.
The loss drops Penn to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in Ivy League play. The Quakers will next take on Harvard on the road on November 16.
