The Cole Hamels era in Philadelphia has come to a close. On Wednesday night, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reported that Hamels would be dealt to the Rangers along with Jake Diekman for a slew of prospects and pitcher Matt Harrison.

The deal has yet to be confirmed by either club, but based on multiple reports, appears to be imminent.

In return for their ace, the Phillies will receive pitcher Matt Harrison and prospects Jorge Alfaro (catcher), Nick Williams (outfielder), Jake Thompson (RHP), Alec Asher (RHP) and Jerad Eickhoff (RHP).

After tossing the 13th no-hitter in Phillies history on Saturday against the Cubs, Cole Hamels has become an even hotter commodity than he had already been entering the final stretch before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

As of the past few hours, the Rangers and Dodgers have become front-runners in the Hamels sweepstakes according to a report from ESPN’s Jayson Stark.

Just one day after Phillies ace Cole Hamels tossed the 13th no-hitter in the club’s history, the Phillies’ hopeful ace of the future, Aaron Nola, took the hill looking for his first big league win.

With Hamels likely in his final days in a Phillies uniform, Nola appears even closer to being the top arm in the Phillies’ rotation, despite making just his second start in the Major Leagues on Sunday.

Nola would seize the opportunity on Sunday, picking up his first career victory in the Phillies’ 11-5 win, as the club swept the Cubs to improve to 8-1 after the All-Star break.

Hamels Records 13th No Hitter In Phillies History

7/25/2015

Atta boy Cole!  After two horrendous starts in his most recent outings, the 2008 World Series MVP focused and went back to doing what he does best: mowing down hitters.  Hamels went out in the first inning just to get his rhythm back, but 27 outs and 129 pitches later, Odubel Herrera caught a ball on the warning track, wrapping up the 13th no-hitter in franchise history.

It was the first no-hitter since the joint no-hitter last Labor Day weekend, and the first no-hitter through all 9 innings since Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game against the Reds in the 2010 playoffs. Hamels also managed to out hit the Cubs by himself, with a double in the game.

According to a report from ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Phillies are running low on potential trade partners for closer Jonathan Papelbon. Stark reports that the Blue Jays, Cubs and Dodgers are no longer actively pursuing the outspoken veteran.

Papelbon has been very outspoken in the past about his desires to be traded, including just more than a week ago during the All-Star Break when he said "three years is plenty" with the Phillies.

It’s no secret that 2015 (and 2014 and 2013) has been a miserable year for the Phillies.

On Wednesday, they entered Citizens Bank Park with an opportunity to do something they had yet to do all year, win two series in a row. Thanks to some extra inning heroics from Odubel Herrera, who entered the game in the bottom of the 10th as a pinch-hitter, the Phillies would do just that.

Herrera fouled off seven pitches in his at-bat before taking the 11th pitch he saw to left-center for a walk-off single in the Phillies’ 5-4 win over the Rays.

Nola Impresses, But Phillies Offense Falls Flat in Loss

On Tuesday, top pitching prospect Aaron Nola made his Major League debut for the Phillies in front of probably the best crowd Citizens Bank Park has seen all season.

Nola was worth the price of admission in his debut, tossing six solid innings where he struck out six and allowed just one run on a home run to Rays' pitcher Nathan Karns. Unfortunately for Nola, the Phillies would squander his solid performance, as they were held to just four hits in a 1-0 loss.

On Monday, the Phillies announced that starting pitcher Chad Billingsley would be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Billingsley was pulled after five shutout innings on Saturday after suffering from discomfort in his shoulder. He now heads to the DL with tenderness in his flexor tendon, marking his third stint on the DL this season. This time, “it could be” season ending, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters on Monday.
