Phillies Deal Byrd to Reds

The Phillies continue to unload veterans, as it appears the club is finally beginning to recognize a full rebuild is needed.

On Wednesday, the Phillies sent outfielder Marlon Byrd and cash to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Ben Lively.

The 37-year-old Byrd is coming off a season in which he hit .264 with 25 home runs and 85 RBIs for the Phillies. Byrd is scheduled to make $8 million in 2015 with an $8 million vesting option for 2016.

Jimmy Rollins' 15-year run with the Philadelphia Phillies officially came to an end Friday, when the club completed a deal to send the veteran shortstop and $1 million to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two Minor League pitchers.

The deal was initially reported more than a week ago and was finalized and announced on Friday morning.

The hold-up on the deal was due to the fact that the Dodgers needed to complete their trade of Matt Kemp to the Padres in order to acquire prospect Zach Elfin and in turn flip him to the Phillies.

According to multiple sources, shortstop Jimmy Rollins’ 15-year run with the Philadelphia Phillies has come to an end. CSNPhilly.com and ESPN’s Buster Olney are both reporting that Rollins has been dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It is still unclear what the Phillies acquired in the deal, and FoxSports.com has reported a third team could be involved in the deal.
