The Phillies have placed third baseman Cody Asche on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to May 23, the club announced Sunday. The club called up right-hander Justin De Fratus to fill Asche’s spot on the active roster.
Asche has hit .258 with four home runs and 18 RBIs so far this season. The 23-year-old has been coming on as late, as he hit .317 with a .406 on-base percentage in the month of May. Asche has struggled in the field, however, committing seven errors in 36 games.
