Word has begun to leak on who will be suspended in the Biogenesis case by MLB. Unfortunately it appears one of the Phillies only reliable relievers will be taking a seat for 50 games.
Antonio Bastardo is one of those slated to be suspended later today when MLB lays the smack down on multiple players, most notably Alex Rodriguez.
The suspension definitely hurts the Phillies, but at least it happened in a season that is all but lost. Bastardo now joins J.C. Romero, Freddy Galvis and Carlos Ruiz on the list of Phillies who have been suspended for violating MLB's Drug Program in their career.
The Phillies released the following statement concerning Bastardo's suspension:
"Obviously, the Phillies are very disappointed to learn of Antonio Bastardo's violation of Major League Baseball's Drug Program. We strongly believe in the Program and look forward to a time when performance-enhancing drugs are completely out of baseball. Hopefully the sanctions announced today will bring us closer to that day. We respect the fact that Antonio has acknowledged his serious mistake and accepted his 50-game suspension."
