This is just a formality at this point since it has been known it would happen for a year now, but the Phillies declined to pick up left-hander Cliff Lee's club option for 2016.

As a result, the Phillies will give Lee a nice early Christmas present when they pay him his $12.5 million buyout on November 30 rather than the $27.5 million they would've owed him for the 2016 season.

According to a report from CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, the Phillies are set to interview Major League Baseball Senior Vice-President of Baseball Operations Kim Ng and others for the vacant general manager role in the organization.

If true, the report puts the Phillies in a position to make history in a very good way. If hired, Ng would be the first female general manager in any of the four major sports leagues in America, something that is long overdue.

One game remained on the Phillies schedule.

One shot. One opportunity...to not lose 100 games in 2015.

On Sunday afternoon, the Phillies would manage to avoid picking up their first 100-loss season since 1961 (when they lost 107 games), picking up a 7-2 win over the Marlins in the season finale.

Jonathan Papelbon Gets Into Fight With Bryce Harper

I normally do not care in the slightest what is going on with the Nationals (even though they were playing the Phillies, who won 12-5), but this is just too good to pass up. Jonathan Papelbon made no friends on his way out in Philadelphia and complained pretty much nonstop from the time he signed his big contract with the Phillies.

The Mets locked up the NL East on Saturday, but that apparently hasn't stopped Papelbon from complaining.

Papelbon and Harper appeared to exchange words after a Harper at-bat, which led to the two coming to blows in the dugout. Video below.

Phillies second baseman Cesar Hernandez's season officially came to an end on Monday when the club announced he has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Hernandez was injured in a collision at first base with the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo in the seventh inning of Sunday's game (video below), dislocating his left thumb and suffering ligament damage in the thumb as well.

The 25-year-old will have surgery on Wednesday to repair the ligament damage. The estimated recovery time for this type of surgery is usually around three months, so Hernandez should be fine for next season.

The Phillies were able to pull out a 7-4 win Sunday afternoon against the Cubs to split a four-game series, but suffered a loss even in victory.

Cesar Hernandez suffered a dislocated left thumb in a collision with the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo at first base in the seventh (video) and there is concern about the ligament in his hand. Hernandez will visit a hand specialist on Monday, and it appears the injury could bring the 25-year-old's season to an end a few weeks early.

Cesar Hernandez is probably done for the season. He will see a hand specialist Monday. "some concern about the ligament,” Mackanin said.
