The Phillies have placed veteran left-hander Cliff Lee on the 60-day disabled list following a second failed attempt at rehabbing from a torn common flexor tendon in his left elbow. The club announced the move Monday, stating that the 36-year-old pitcher and organization came to a mutual decision to attempt rehab, despite doctors recommending surgery. |
"While surgery has now been recommended, it would effectively put an end to his 2015 season as the rehabilitation from the surgery would run through the end of the season," the club said in a statement.
Lee, who was sent to the 60-day DL last July with the same injury, had been a major trade chip for the Phillies entering the season as the club looks to rebuild. The chances of a trade netting the club anything in return are now virtually zero, and the pitcher's career now lies in jeopardy.
