On Tuesday, Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced that Pete Mackanin will remain in the role of interim manager for the rest of the season. Mackanin took over as interim manager on Friday following Ryne Sandberg’s resignation. Mackanin has vowed to make decisions in the best interest of the Phillies organization for the future, but Amaro did not guarantee that Mackanin will have a job as manager after the season. |
This is the third time in Mackanin’s career that he has held the title of interim manager.
In addition, the Phillies announced that Special Assistant Director of Player Personnel Jorge Velandia will take over as a coach to help fill the void left after Sandberg’s resignation.
