The Phillies announced today they have signed Bobby Abreu to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. The 39-year-old Abreu did not play in the MLB this past season, but put up solid numbers in the Venezuelan Winter League…take that for whatever it’s worth.
The deal could be worth $800,000 if Abreu makes the club, and brings him back to Philadelphia where he played from 1998-2006, hitting .303 with a .416 OBP.
I guess at least Abreu takes pitches and gets walks, something unheard of on the Phillies. Side note, Abreu began his first tenure with the Phillies when I was just six years old.
