After picking up his 22nd save of the season Wednesday night and lowering his ERA to 1.24 on the season, Jonathan Papelbon made it clear he would welcome being traded to a contender at the deadline.
"Some guys want to stay on a losing team? That's mind-boggling to me," Papelbon said postgame.
Asked if he would accept a trade to a contending team, Papelbon made his mindset clear.
"Yeah," he said. "I think that's a no-brainer."

Should it be surprising that Papelbon is willing to leave a miserable Phillies team for a contender? No. Did he need to take that shot at his teammates who would like to stay? No, but that’s Papelbon.
He speaks his mind, so I guess we should be grateful for that.
But whether the Phillies can actually unload him and the approximately $20 million remaining on his contract, not including the $13 million vesting option for 2016, remains to be seen.
The Phillies tried to deal him on multiple occasions before. They were unsuccessful.
If the right offer is made, the Phillies will have no choice but to pull the trigger.
In Papelbon’s defense, he wasn’t all negative in his postgame comments.
"You know, I came here for a reason ... and I say that because I'm with a group of guys in the bullpen that can do very special things in the future,” he said. “I've been waiting for that, you know what I mean? It's fun to be a part of that, it really is. We are there finally with our bullpen. So that aspect of it would kind of suck to leave. But at the same time, winning is the cure-all of cure-alls."
