Kyle Kendrick’s first inning struggles continued Saturday afternoon, as the right-hander allowed a solo shot to Hunter Pence. It was Kendrick’s eighth home run allowed in the first inning this season.

Kendrick would settle in a bit from there, however, as the Phillies built a 5-1 lead. The Phillies would completely self-destruct in the sixth inning though, allowing the Giants to tie the game before falling 6-5 in end.

After the minor hiccup by Kendrick in the first, the Phillies’ offense would pick up their pitcher, scoring two runs in the third to take the lead.

Chase Utley would double home a run in the fifth and Ryan Howard would follow that with a two-run single, as the Phillies had suddenly given Kendrick a four-run cushion.

The Phillies’ pitching would completely implode in the sixth, as Buster Posey led off the inning with a single before an error allowed the next batter to reach safely.

Michael Morse would follow that with an RBI-double to end Kendrick’s night, as manager Ryne Sandberg turned to the bullpen.

The relievers would have no better luck.

Mario Hollands would walk the first batter he faced before allowing an infield single that scored Pablo Sandoval and pulled the Giants within two.

Hollands would be lifted at the point, but the bullpen would continue to struggle, as the Giants scored two more runs in the frame to tie the game at 5-5.

Antonio Bastardo would allow a triple to lead off the eighth, and Jake Diekman would allow an RBI single in the very next at-bat, as the Phillies completely imploded in a 6-5 loss.

For who? My teammates. For what? To win.
