The Phillies turned to their bullpen to piece together a game just one night after Roy Halladay exited in the first inning. After the offense plated two early runs, the pitchers held on to shut the Marlins down, as the Phillies won by a score of 2 to 1.
Zach Miner was tapped to start the contest for the Phillies and was solid, pitching four innings while allowing only one run. Miner handed things over to Mike Stutes, making his first appearance since June. Stutes tossed a scoreless frame and was given the win by the official scorer in the end, his third of the year.
J.C. Ramirez came on for the sixth and seventh inning and was stellar, scattering one hit in the appearance before Jake Diekman tossed a scoreless eighth. Jonathan Papelbon took over in the ninth and held the Marlins scoreless, allowing one hit on his way to picking up his 29th save of the season.
The Phillies offense was far from impressive on the evening, scoring only two runs on five hits, but it managed to be just enough to collect the win. The Phillies scored both their runs in the first, as Jimmy Rollins doubled and was followed by three consecutive walks to bring him across the plate. Kevin Frandsen then grounded out with the bases loaded to plate the Phillies second and final run.
With a lackluster offense to say the least, the Phillies lucked out that they were playing the Marlins, as even a bullpen with a track record like the Phillies' was able to shut down the Fish and pick up the win.
The Phillies will now close out their series with the Marlins before heading to Atlanta to finish out the season. Cole Hamels will make the start for the Phillies.
