A.J. Burnett's struggles continued Friday night, as the veteran right-hander who has been pitching through an inguinal hernia most of the season surrendered five runs in six innings of work.
The Phillies would rally late, however, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull within one of the Mets. But that rally would ultimately fall short, as they lost by a score of 5-4.

Burnett was able to work through his struggles early, getting out of a bases loaded jam in the third before the Mets finally got a hold of him in the fourth.
The Mets knocked around Burnett in the fourth, scoring four runs to break a scoreless tie. Former Phillies prospect Travis d'Arnaud would hit a solo home run off Burnett in the fifth, extending the Mets' lead to 5-0.
The Phillies would rally late in this one, however, as Marlon Byrd hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning before the Phillies worked up a rally in the ninth.
Grady Sizemore would pull the Phillies within two with a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth before Cody Asche knocked in a run to cut the deficit to just one.
The Phillies would be unable to complete their comeback attempt though, falling to the Mets 5-4 in the end.
