The Phillies closed out their visit to Wrigley Field this afternoon with a 7 to 1 loss, giving the Cubs the win in the series 2 games to 1. The Phillies played poorly approximately 14 hours after trading perhaps their hottest hitter Michael Young. The series loss was not pretty and it could have been even worse, had the Cubs not allowed the Phillies to score six unanswered runs to come back for the win on Friday.
Kyle Kendrick took the hill for the Phillies and continued to revert back to the Kendrick of old, surrendering five runs in six innings of work. Kendrick was hit around quite a bit, allowing eight hits in all, as he fails to mirror any of his success from the first half of the season.
Jake Diekman tossed a perfect seventh inning, as the lefty has been lights-out recently. While Diekman continues to show promise, it has not been the same story with the rest of the Phillies bullpen. J.C. Ramirez took the mound for the Phillies and looked awful to put things nicely. Ramirez allowed two runs on one hit, while walking three.
The Phillies offense was lacking on the afternoon, as they managed only four hits all game. The Phillies scored their only run of the game in the fourth, as Darin Ruf hit his twelfth home run of the season.
The Phillies will now return home to Citizens Bank Park, as they welcome the Nationals to town. Cole Hamels will make the start for the Phillies.
