The Phillies dropped yet another game to the Mets. In a rain-shortened contest, the Phillies fell by a score of 5 to 4 in six and one-third innings. It was loss number 83 on the season and proved that in Philadelphia when it rains, it pours.
Tyler Cloyd made the start for the Phillies and was hit around in five innings of work. Cloyd allowed five runs on the way to picking up his sixth loss of the season. After coming out to start the sixth, Cloyd allowed three runs and was charged with another when the bullpen failed to strand the runners.
Ethan Martin came on to toss a scoreless sixth inning for the Phillies, as the run he allowed was charged to Cloyd's line. Joe Savery came on for the seventh and recorded one out while walking a batter, before the rain stopped the game.
The Phillies grabbed a 1 to 0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by Cody Asche, but the Mets responded with a run of their own in the fourth. After the Mets burst out for four runs in the sixth to take the lead, the Phillies rallied in the bottom half of the frame, pulling to within 5 to 4. Jimmy Rollins doubled home a run and was brought home on a Carlos Ruiz RBI ground out. Chase Utley would score on a wild pitch to bring the Phillies within one, but that would be it, as the rain stopped the game in the next inning.
The Phillies will now finish their series with the Mets, as they play their final home game of a disappointing season. Cliff Lee will make the start for the Phillies.
