The Phillies lackluster offense returned yet again tonight, as they fell to the Braves in front of 30,000 empty seats at Turner Field. While the pitching could have been worse, the hitting could not have.
Ethan Martin got the start for the Phillies and did enough to keep them in the game. Martin lasted only five innings, but managed to hold the Braves to three runs on six hits and two walks. Luis Garcia tossed one and one-third scoreless before, Jake Diekman recorded the final two outs in the seventh. Justin De Fratus came on to throw a scoreless eighth, but with a lacking offense, it didn't matter.
One night after finally scoring some runs for Cole Hamels, the Phillies offense plated only one run on six hits. The Phillies only run came in the sixth inning on a Dom Brown RBI single, before the All Star was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. The only bright spot on offense tonight came from Chase Utley, who was 3 for 4 at the plate. Utley hit a double and scored the only Phillies run on the evening as well.
The Phillies will now finish their series with the Braves tomorrow. John Lannan will make the start.
