The Phillies dropped the second game of their four-game set against the Braves to close out a tumultuous 2013 season. Cliff Lee looked terrific in his final start of the season, but the Phillies offense continued to flounder about, as they were shut out by the Braves on their way to a 1 to 0 loss.
Lee took the mound for his final start of the season and finished out 2013 strong. Lee threw eight innings while striking out 13 and only allowing three hits. Unfortunately Lee made one mistake the entire night and it cost him a chance at his 15th win of the year. In the bottom of the eighth, Lee allowed a solo home run that barely cleared the fence to Chris Johnson to start the inning. That would be all the Braves would need, as the Phillies mustered only two hits all game.
The Phillies continued to struggle mightily as the season approaches its end. On the night, the Phillies only collected two hits, one by Cesar Hernandez and the other by Chase Utley. The Phillies worked two walks as well, courtesy of Utley and Carlos Ruiz, but an overall lousy display by the offense allowed the Braves to get the win.
The Phillies now have only two games remaining in a disappointing 2013 season. They will finish out the season at Turner Field against the Braves, Ethan Martin and Zach Miner are scheduled to start the final two contests for the Phillies.
