Chase Utley put the Phillies ahead with an RBI single in the fifth, and Ryan Howard increased the lead with a solo home run in the sixth, but the Pirates stormed back late to take the game 6-5.
Jeff Manship manned the ship (sorry, couldn’t help myself, I love a corny joke) to start for the Phillies. Manship surrendered two runs on six hits in four innings, including a solo home run to Andrew McCutchen in the first.

Justin De Fratus relieved Manship, tossing a scoreless inning before handing things over to Jake Diekman, who did the same.
B.J. Rosenberg came on in the seventh and did fine before getting smacked around for four runs in the eighth, lasting one and one-third inning, as the Pirates regained the lead.
Mario Hollands would record the final two outs for the Phillies, but they were only able to get one run back in the top of the ninth, as they fell 6-5.
The single by Utley in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie before Howard hit an opposite field home run in the sixth to add to that lead.
The lead wouldn’t last, as Rosenberg crumbled in the eighth on the Phillies’ way to picking up their 11th loss of the spring.
Cliff Lee will make the start Saturday night, as the Phillies take on the Red Sox at 7:05 p.m.
Notes: The Phillies optioned Tommy Joseph, Jeremy Horst, Tyson Gillies and Zach Collier Friday morning. Lou Marson was released by the club and Cesar Jimenez, Ken Giles and infielder Andres Blanco reassigned to the minor league complex. Sebastian Valle was brought back to big league camp after having previously been reassigned, giving the Phillies 44 players remaining in camp.
