The Philadelphia Phillies are losing, a lot. Games that should not be lost, are, and in terrible fashion. I was in attendance when the Phillies had a one run lead heading into the top of the ninth inning on Thursday.
Jonathan Papelbon came in and blew the game by giving up two runs. In the bottom of the ninth, the Giants closer Sergio Romo came in to save the game. Two straight errors and a hit batter allowed the Phillies to load the bases with no outs. A single most likely would have won the game. I was praying for just a sacrifice fly. I didn't get it. Romo retired three straight Phillies bats, Carlos Ruiz, Laynce Nix and Erik Kratz, in order to retire the side and save the game. Despicable.
That game is what this team has come to. No runs, and, when the other team does everything they can to hand the Phillies the game, they turn it down and say, "no thanks, it's all yours". The Phillies are 2-12 now since the All-Star break. While they have played some tough teams, that record cannot be tolerated.
Now that the team is completely out of contention for the playoffs, it's time that Ruben Amaro Jr. to start using young players, hence Cody Asche, Darin Ruf, and Ethan Martin. It's been a tough year folks, but just remember: it can't get any worse than it is now, unless Ruben Amaro is dumb enough to place the Phanatic on waivers.
