Justin De Fratus recorded the last out of the fifth before Mauricio Robles allowed two unearned runs in the sixth. Luis Garcia came on for the seventh and eighth, allowing another run to the Nationals on three hits and two walks. Joe Savery started the ninth and allowed yet another Nationals run while recording two outs. B.J. Rosenberg came on to record the final out of the ninth for the Phillies, but not before allowing the inherited runner to score the run charged to Savery's line.
Trailing 3 to 0 in the fourth, the Phillies made things interesting as they plated two runs when Cody Asche singled home Frandsen and Ruiz. The Nationals would score four more runs before the Phillies would respond again in the sixth, scoring three runs. Darin Ruf scored after Mayberry reached on an error. Michael Martinez and Chase Utley then each singled home a run to pull the score to 7 to 5.
The Nationals responded with a run in the seventh and Cody Asche took it back in the eighth on his third home run of the season. The Nationals would score once more in the ninth to win by a final score of 9 to 6.
Asche continues to improve at the plate, as he had a 3 for 4 night, with three RBIs and a run scored.
The Phillies will finish their series with the Nationals before having Thursday off. Roy Halladay will take the mound for the Phillies.
