Phillies Quest for 100 Losses

The Phillies took a big step forward in their quest for 100 losses on Friday night, dropping both games of a double-header against the Cubs.

The Phillies' record now sits at 54-88 for the season, and they will need to go 9-11 in the final 20 games of the season to avoid finishing with 100 losses. (Fun Facts after the break)

A few (not-so-) fun facts about the Phillies and 100 losses:

• The Phillies have not lost 100 games in a season since 1961, when the club lost 107 games. That is pretty impressive considering the team spent so many years mired in mediocrity before the 2007-2011 playoff run.
• The Phillies won a franchise record 102 games in 2011. Man have they fallen fast.
• Through 70 home games in 2015, the Phillies attendance number is 1,658,697. For comparison, the club drew 3,777,322 in 2010 during a stretch of seven straight seasons (2007-2013) of surpassing the three million mark for attendance.
• The most losses in a single season in the organization's history is 111, a feat achieved in 1941.
• The Phillies once compiled five consecutive 100-loss seasons from 1938-1942. Seasons weren't even 162 games back then...
• The worst winning percentage in the Phillies' history came in their inaugural 1883 season, when they amassed a .173 winning percentage in a 17-81 season.
• From 1933-1948, the Phillies strung together 16 consecutive losing seasons.

So, if you thought watching this season has been miserable, just thank your lucky stars you (most likely) weren't alive for those extremely terrible seasons during the 1930s and 1940s.
