The Nationals broke out the brooms against the Phillies today in a game that for some odd reason started at 5:05 pm. Seriously Washington, get it together, who starts a game then? Back to business. The Phillies got crushed as the Nationals swept them right out of D.C. by a score of 6 to 0.
Kyle Kendrick got the start, and continued his second half struggles, getting rocked. The Nationals put up six runs, four earned, on eleven hits against Kendrick, in just four and one-third innings pitched. Justin De Fratus came on in relief and tossed one and two-third scoreless, allowing one hit. Jake Diekman was next up, throwing a scoreless seventh before Jonthan Papelbon did the same in the eighth.
Not much to tell you about the offense, except for it was pretty bad. The Phillies posted only four hits all game as they were shutout by the Nationals. Kevin Frandsen collected two hits on the day, and Jimmy Rollins and Dom Brown added one hit apiece. That would be all for the Phillies offense on the day, as they continue to struggle since the loss of Ben Revere.
The Phillies will now travel to Atlanta to play the NL East leading Braves. Cole Hamels will get the start for the Phightins.
