The Phillies continued their stretch of futility Sunday night on national television, as they fell to the Braves 4 to 1. The loss resulted in the Phillies being swept out by the Braves and losing their fifth straight.
Cliff Lee returned after missing two starts due to neck stiffness and was anything but stellar. Lee lasted only five innings while allowing four runs. Lee did manage to strike out eight batters, but also allowed eight hits in his short outing. Raul Valdes came on to throw three hitless innings before Jonathan Papelbon tossed a scoreless ninth, but it was to late, as the Phillies offense floundered yet again.
Scoring only one run on the evening, the Phillies managed to collect only four hits all game. Darin Ruf had a 2 for 4 evening at the plate, while Carlos Ruiz and Michael Young collected the Phillies other two hits. The Phillies one and only run came in the bottoms of the third, as Michael Young grounded out to score Carlos Ruiz.
The Phillies will now have tonight off before welcoming the equally-bad Chicago Cubs to town. Kyle Kendrick will make the start, as he attempts to break this horrible string of play by the Phillies.
