Phillies Top Nationals, But Lose Lee in the Process

Now I kind of wish Cliff Lee had been traded prior to Thursday afternoon's non-waiver Trade Deadline.

The Phillies were silent at the deadline, however, as General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. failed to make a single move to look toward the future for this struggling club.

One of the Phillies' biggest trade pieces, Cliff Lee, would take the mound Thursday evening and that's when every Phillies fan's day got even worse. Lee reinjured his elbow in the third inning and was removed from the game, one the Phillies would eventually win 10-4 over the Nationals.

The Phillies announced Lee strained his left flexor pronator again, and would be headed to the 15-DL. He is now likely done for the season.

The Phillies offense would pick things up after Lee exited the game, scoring five runs in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie.

The Nationals would chip away at the Phillies' lead in the fourth and fifth, but the Phillies would respond with two runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-3.

The Phillies would add three more in the eighth, as they dominated the Nationals by a score of 10-4.

While they may've won the game, the Phillies organization definitely came up on the losing end Thursday, as the future still appears bleak with a roster full of players past their prime with large contracts. The Lee injury only compounded the organization's problems.

For who? My teammates. For what? To win.
