The Phillies walked off for the second night in a row, this time by a score of 5 to 4, to take the four game series against the Rockies. The Rockies took a lead in the sixth, and the Phillies threatened in the eighth, pulling within one, before winning it in the ninth.
Kyle Kendrick took the mound for the Phillies tonight and was solid early before falling apart. Kendrick allowed the Rockies to tie the score at one in the fifth before surrendering three more runs without recording an out in the sixth. Kendrick left the game with five innings pitched and four earned runs on eight hits. Zach Miner came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings before B.J. Rosenberg and Cesar Jimenez tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth respectively.
The Phillies grabbed an early 1 to 0 lead on a Cody Asche double in the second inning. The lead would not hold, as Kendrick began to struggle, while the offense sat idly by, doing no damage. Things got interesting in the bottom of the eighth, when Darin Ruf smacked a two run home run to bring the Phillies within one run. Jimmy Rollins knocked a two out double in the ninth to put the tying run in scoring position. Last night's hero, Michael Young, singled home Rollins to tie the game. Chase Utley followed that with a walk before Dom Brown knocked a game-winning single.
The Phillies will now welcome the D-backs to Citizens Bank Park. Cole Hamels will make the start for the Phillies and look to continue his steady improvement since the All Star Break.
