Marlon Byrd and Ryan Howard each singled home a run in the third and Carlos Ruiz knocked in one more in the inning to stake the Phillies a 3-0 lead, one they wouldn’t relinquish in a 6-2 win over the Yankees.
Roberto Hernandez made the start for the Phillies, throwing five perfect innings before allowing a single to the first batter in the sixth and being lifted. It would be the only hit allowed by Hernandez on the afternoon, as he looked solid in the win.

Jeremy Horst would relieve Hernandez, allowing two runs in one and two-thirds inning pitched before handing things over to Ken Giles. Giles allowed a single Francisco Cervelli to score the Yankees second run, but it was charged to Horst’s line.
After allowing the single to the first batter he faced, Giles would settle in, recording four outs before Brad Lincoln came on to pitch a perfect ninth.
Leading by just one entering the bottom of the eighth, the Phillies would score three runs in the inning to extend their lead, as Reid Brignac doubled home a run and Tommy Joseph followed with a two-run double.
The 6-2 win was the second win in a row for the Phillies, the first time they have won back-to-back games this spring.
