On Tuesday, Ruben Amaro Jr. made sure to endear himself to Phillies fans even more than he already has in his years as general manager.
In a story published on CSNPhilly.com, Amaro when prompted about the Phillies Double-A pitching and whether he would answer fans' calls to bring up some young talent responded in a manner that didn't exactly sit well with the City of Brotherly Love. |
“They don’t understand the game,” Amaro told CSN Philly. "They don’t understand the process. There’s a process. And then they bitch and complain because we don’t have a plan. There’s a plan in place and we’re sticking with the plan. We can’t do what’s best for the fan. We have to do what’s best for the organization so the fan can reap the benefit of it later on. That’s the truth.”
Amaro then spent his morning backtracking/apologizing for his comments after fans expressed their displeasure.
I'm no genius (though I play one on the Internet), but you would think Amaro would know better by now. Amaro is after all, a Philadelphia native. He's been around the block once or twice.
A word of advice, Ruben, if you don't have anything nice, don't say anything at all.
