After tossing the 13th no-hitter in Phillies history on Saturday against the Cubs, Cole Hamels has become an even hotter commodity than he had already been entering the final stretch before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

As of the past few hours, the Rangers and Dodgers have become front-runners in the Hamels sweepstakes according to a report from ESPN’s Jayson Stark.
Multiple other clubs, including the Cubs, Yankees, Giants and Red Sox, remain in discussions with the Phillies over potentially acquiring the ace as well.

Various clubs had scouts in the stands for Hamels’ historic outing on Saturday, and it appears that after an outing like that, teams may be willing to part with better prospects and potentially take on more of the $73.5 million remaining on the left-hander’s contract after 2015.

Sources: Momentum building toward Hamels trade. Offers have improved since no-hitter. Teams asking for less money, offering better players.

Some other factors could affect where Hamels lands and what the Phillies receive in return, however, including where and when other high-end starters are traded.

David Price remains one big name that could affect Hamels deals. ESPN’s Jim Bowden recently tweeted the below saying the Tigers may now see themselves as buyers.

I just ran into #Tigers President Dave Dombrowski in the press dining at Fenway Park he told me they are going to try and win #buyers

But Jon Morosi tweeted the below regarding the Tigers’ hopes for dealing Price, meaning things may have changed that quickly.

#Tigers hope Cole Hamels lands with #Rangers. That would leave #Dodgers still in market for a top starter, driving up David Price's value.

Odds are this is just continued smoke screens by different teams waiting until the price is right. But one thing is for certain, the Cole Hamels market continues to get hotter and hotter by the hour.

For who? My teammates. For what? To win.
