The 76ers were defeated at home by the Miami Heat in a rematch of their season opener. The fact that Philadelphia, led by Carter-Williams, won a shocker in the first match-up, combined with Miami's 3-game losing streak coming into this game, lit a fire in the Heat (sorry for the puns). The Sixers (13-26) could not get it going offensively and would lose 101-86.
The Heat started off hot (Again... I'm sorry) in the opening quarter. Led by Chris Bosh, Miami jumped out to a 12 point lead they would not relinquish. The 76ers, still the worst team defensively, allowed the Heat to score 34 points in the 1st quarter. In their first match-up it was the Sixers jumping out early and scoring 19 unanswered, but not this time around. Philly was down 58-44 at the half.
The Sixers struggled the entire game and it was not pretty to watch. Philadelphia shot 36.9% as a team from the floor and missed 18 of their 20 attempts from three-point range as the couldn't take the Heat. Philly also committed 23 turnovers and only hit 59.5% from the foul line. The one thing that Brett Brown's crew did well, was limit Miami to 9 fast break points, while scoring 22 of their own.
Miami maintained their lead through the second half. Not a single Sixer could get into a rhythm to start any sort of run. Tony Wroten led the team in scoring with only 13 points. The Sixers would get scorched (sorry) by the Heat and lose 101-86.
Michael Carter-Williams had a sloppy performance in his second contest against Miami. In his first career game, MCW finished with 22 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, and 9 steals. In this one, he shot 1 for 7 from the floor, ending with 7 points, 2 assists, and 5 turnovers. Evan Turner scored 12 points to go with 6 rebounds. Hawes recorded another double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Young scored 10 points but swiped 4 steals.
LeBron James scored 21 for Miami while dishing out 10 assists and grabbing 8 rebounds. Bosh finished with a game-high 25 points to go with 6 boards, 4 assists, and 5 blocks. Shane Battier and Norris Cole each added 13 points.
The Sixers will look to recover from this burn (last one, I swear) in Chicago against the Bulls on Saturday.
