The 76ers hosted the Orlando Magic on Wednesday and their struggles would continue. The Magic came in with a 16 game road losing streak but the Sixers had a 10 home losing streak of their own. Despite leading at halftime, the 76ers would fall behind by double-digits in the 4th thanks to Orlando's three-point shooting. The Sixers (15-43) lost to the equally bad Magic, 101-90.
Brett Brown decided on moving Henry Sims and Hollis Thompson into the starting lineup. There were 13 first half lead changes in a highly competitive 1st and 2nd quarter. Unlike their last game against the Bucks, neither team shot the ball well as both teams struggled to score. Thad Young led Philly with 10 points as his team went into halftime with a 44-40 lead. The 76ers had 20 fast break points in the opening half alone.
The Magic retook the lead briefly less than 4 minutes into the 2nd half. Orlando expanded their lead to as many as 7, but two made free throws from Tony Wroten tied it up at 67 for the start of the 4th. Only 3 minutes into the final quarter, the Sixers allowed the Magic to rebuild their 7 point lead. A three-pointer from Jameer Nelson pushed Orlando's lead to double-digits. Orlando caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting 5 of 7 from long range in the 4th, helping them maintain their hold on the game. The Sixers' struggling offense was unable to get them back in it. The Sixers would lose their 11th straight at home, falling 101-90 to the Magic.
Thad Young finished with 19 points, 2 steals, and a block. Carter-Williams recorded 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals but only scored 8 points (3-11 FG). Henry Sims scored 10 points and collected 6 rebounds in his first start since being traded from Cleveland. Wroten scored 15 points while Maynor added 13 off the bench. The Sixers shot only 37% from the floor but only committed 8 turnovers.
Former Sixer, Nikola Vucevic scored 21 points, secured 13 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots for the Magic. Oladipo added 17 points, 11 boards, and 2 steals. Nelson scored 16 points while dishing out 12 assists without committing a turnover. The Magic hit 9 of 18 from downtown as a team. The Magic won the rebounding battle 55-42.
Before the game it was announced that the Sixers have agreed to buyout Danny Granger. The former Indiana all-star had no stepped foot on the court for Philadelphia after being traded for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen.
The Sixers continue their homestand against the Wizards on Saturday as they will retire Allen Iverson's jersey.
